The Cultural and Artistic Week of the Wilaya of Khenchela opened in style on Sunday evening at the Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture, transformed for the occasion into a true living showcase of the Aurès heritage.
Until July 25, Algiers residents are invited to immerse themselves in the deep soul of Khenchela, through craftsmanship, visual arts, traditions, and collective memory.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Arts as part of cultural exchanges between wilayas, this week is part of the 2025 summer program and celebrates the plural identity of Algeria’s interior regions.
A constellation of artists and artisans from Khenchela share their know-how, sensitivity, and deep connection to their roots through unique works of art.
Among the exhibiting artists are Djamel Boutabba, Kelif Hadia, Khaled Sbaa, Hadjira Merdaci, and Bouhlala Nabil, whose works highlight the visual and symbolic richness of the region.
The traditional Babar carpet, a true jewel of Chaoui weaving, is elegantly reimagined alongside handcrafted objects, installations, and publications tracing local history.
Each creation becomes a bridge between ancestral heritage and contemporary vision.
The opening evening was enlivened by traditional songs and dances performed by local troupes, in a warm and proud atmosphere.
In the presence of Smaïl Inzarene, Director of the Organization for the Promotion of Cultural and Artistic Products, the audience resonated to the rhythm of the Aurès, feeling the vibrant energy of a deeply rooted land.
More than just an event, this cultural week is a declaration of love to Khenchela — a region embodying authenticity, resilience, and the beauty of Algeria’s soul.
It serves as a reminder that culture is a living bond between past and present, between tradition and renewal, between the wilayas and the nation as a whole.
