Located on Avenue de l’ALN, the Sétif National Public Museum of Archaeology traces the history of the city and its surrounding region, from prehistoric times to the medieval period. Its collections reveal the civilisations that shaped this area through archaeological remains and everyday objects.
The displays include tools and fossils from the prehistoric site of Aïn Hanech. The ancient collections then reveal the past of Sitifis, the Roman city of Sétif, through pottery, oil lamps, glassware, bronze objects and inscriptions.
Mosaics are a highlight of the museum’s collections. The visit continues with Islamic art, including Fatimid and Hammadid ceramics, carved marble and painted stucco. A collection of ancient coins completes this journey through the ages.
The museum offers history enthusiasts and curious travellers an opportunity to explore the archaeological heritage of Sétif and its region. It is a rewarding cultural stop to include when discovering the city.
